We are focusing on the microbial milieu of the human host in an attempt to determine the pathogenesis of diarrheal illnesses, and to determine the cause of unexplained diarrhea. We also focus our efforts in depth on the pathophysiology of progression to extra-intestinal injury in Escherichia coli O157:H7 infections. Additionally, we are studying the evolution of the chromosomes of pathogenic microbes. We are also interrogating human microbial interactions in inflammatory bowel disease.
